Making a well-structured essay: a practical guide

08 Feb 2017

To let another person get your idea of the work and to convince him or her of the truth of your words you need to represent the train of thought in a proper way. The chosen words and voice do matter in this concern. You should remember for whom you are writing and what is the purpose of representing your opinion as for the discussed subject going to the aim paying no attention to the distractions. But it is not all. One of the most important elements of the puzzle which can allow you to succeed in your paper composition is the decent structure of the work. Proper organization of thoughts on the paper will help the reader to grasp the essence of the work and the connections of each element of evidence gradually leading him to the represented conclusion. There exist varied types of essays characterized by own peculiarities. The structure of the traditional college essay consists of the topic, the introductory part including thesis, the principal paragraphs containing the evidence base, and the conclusion. To succeed in the structure formation you need to remember that every element must perform its own function otherwise the ingredients of your work will not represent a cohesive article.

Every assignment demands research. To simplify the process of search you can use the reliable resources, like the Library of Congress. If you find the task too complicated on this stage of preparations you can always address to the essay writing provider. The professional authors will entrust you the needed information describing the effective composition.

Topic

The first element you cannot avoid spending time on is the topic. It serves to attract attention to the work. Make the tone and the style of the theme presentation and the rest of the article agree otherwise the mismatch will make a bad impression on the reader lowering his interest to the next parts of the work and the percentage of the acceptance of your point of view at the end of it. Don’t choose too general topics for discussion or those offering too wide field for work. The first will make the audience feel boredom while reading while the second will not allow you to provide a substantial evidence within your one-page paper. The underdone work will not get a high evaluation.

Introduction

This is the presentation of your idea. Make it as much attractive as it is possible to assure the reader of the actualness of the theme, of the precision of your thesis, the proper foundation of the core ideas and weight-of-evidence, and the well-grounded conclusion. Start it with the general sentence adding a little more data in the following ones. The terminative part of the opening paragraph is the thesis. It should render your argument within a sentence representing a summary of the proofs contained in the main part of the article. The thesis structure predetermines the topic paragraphs in the main part.

Principal part

This element of the essay writing contains all the proofs you find important to represent (facts, statistics, etc.) about the subject of the discussion to win over the reader. Traditionally there are three or four of them in the essay. Each one is disclosed in a separate paragraph which has the structure of its own making the decent contribution in the proper perception of the offered data by the audience. This is half of a battle. The opening sentence of each paragraph should illustrate the connection of this element with the thesis and the topic pointing out the aspect which is discussed in it. Here you should focus on the best evidence you are capable of providing to persuade the reader as for your view connected with the determined aspect. One of the most widely spread mistake in this concern is the loss of the mentioned here connection between the topic sentence and the thesis itself. This results in evoking several themes which make impossible the effective discourse. It confuses the reader.

Conclusion

Do not assume that having come to the last part of the article you have already coped with the assignment for the ending should put the full stop in the reflections of the reader as for the worthiness of your idea. The opening sentence most often summarizes the whole work representing the simplified short form of thesis and evidence base. Just use different words than those in the introductory. The next several sentences represent a more detailed evaluation of the theme in regard to the discussed evidence. The last sentence of the paragraph should inform the reader about the connection of the theme with the reader’s interests. It often includes projection into the future.

Thought from the first sight the essay writing structure may seem too complicated to fit in it also presupposes some flexibility in self-expression. At the end of the main part representing evidence, the writer can address to the counter-arguments, limitations, and exceptions to the core argument of the work. This is not reflected in the introductory. Such versatile presentation will illustrate the profound knowledge of the author about the topic in discussion. This is always effective. Having made a thorough research on the theme you will get the desired freedom in self-expression within the scope determined by the guidance.
